Barry Barish is an American experimental physicist whose leadership transformed LIGO from a troubled construction effort into a large international scientific project. He is the Linde Professor of Physics emeritus at Caltech.

Barish shared the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics with Rainer Weiss and Kip Thorne for decisive contributions to the LIGO detector and the observation of gravitational waves. His contribution shows that organization and engineering strategy can be inseparable from discovery.
