Mass Action for Peace

Women of Liberia Mass Action for Peace brought Christian and Muslim women together around a clear nonviolent demand. Participants prayed, demonstrated in white clothing, and maintained visible public pressure for negotiations.

The movement forced a meeting with President Charles Taylor and later pressed parties at peace talks in Accra to reach an agreement. Its leverage came from disciplined persistence and the moral and social authority of a broad women-led coalition.
