Nobel Prize and Continuing Advocacy

The Nobel Committee awarded Menchú the 1992 Peace Prize for social justice and reconciliation grounded in respect for Indigenous peoples’ rights. She presented the prize as belonging more broadly to Indigenous communities across the Americas.

Through her foundation and public work, she has continued advocacy in education, human rights, peace, cultural recognition, and Indigenous political participation. Her role has shifted from testimonial witness to institution builder and international representative.
