Evers was shot outside his Jackson home on June 12, 1963. His murder exposed the lethal enforcement of Mississippi’s racial order and made the risks borne by local movement organizers nationally visible.

Myrlie Evers preserved his story, pursued accountability, and continued civil-rights leadership for decades. Remembering Medgar Evers therefore includes the family and organizational labor that carried the work beyond his death.
