Farmworker Organizing

Huerta helped organize farmworkers excluded from many labor protections and played a leading role in building the National Farm Workers Association. During the Delano grape campaign, she directed boycott work and helped negotiate contracts addressing wages and working conditions.

The movement joined strikes with a national appeal to consumers. Its power came from collective action across workers, organizers, religious groups, students, and supporters rather than from any one leader alone.
