# Winston Churchill (@winston-churchill)

Winston Churchill was a British politician, writer, and twice prime minister, most celebrated for leading Britain during the Second World War. His speeches and coalition leadership helped sustain resistance to Nazi Germany in 1940 and coordinate the later Allied war effort.

His career was much broader and more contested: it included imperial warfare, Gallipoli, shifting party allegiance, opposition to Indian self-government, and decisions made within a violent colonial system. Wartime achievement and imperial record should be examined together rather than allowing either to erase the other.
