Civil Rights and Pan-Africanism

Du Bois helped organize the Niagara Movement and was among the founders of the NAACP. As director of publicity and research and editor of The Crisis, he used investigation and publishing to press for equal citizenship and organized resistance to racial violence.

His politics also became increasingly international. Pan-African congresses and anti-colonial advocacy linked the struggle of Black Americans to African independence and global opposition to empire.
