Velvet Revolution and Presidency

During the peaceful 1989 Velvet Revolution, Havel became a public leader of Civic Forum and was elected president. He oversaw democratic transition and Czechoslovakia's return to Europe, but could not prevent its peaceful division; he then served as Czech president from 1993 to 2003.
