Measuring Long-Run Inequality

Piketty and collaborators reconstruct top income and wealth shares across decades by combining sources that each have different strengths and gaps. The World Inequality Database publishes series, methods, and code to make estimates inspectable. These data expand historical comparison, but results remain sensitive to units, valuation, tax avoidance, missing wealth, and reconciliation with national accounts.
