# Capital, Inheritance, and Divergence

Piketty argues that wealth concentration can intensify when returns on capital persistently exceed overall economic growth, especially where large fortunes are inherited and institutions do little to counter accumulation. The relation is a historical tendency rather than a mechanical law; wars, inflation, taxation, politics, savings behavior, and asset prices can redirect it.
