# Tarana Burke (@tarana-burke)

Tarana Burke is an American civil-rights organizer who founded the me too movement after years of work with young people and Black communities. Its original focus was survivor healing and leadership, especially for Black girls and other people with limited access to support.

When #MeToo spread globally in 2017, Burke became a central public voice explaining that visibility was not the movement’s endpoint. Her framework emphasizes empathy, resources, prevention, accountability, and organizing led by survivors.
