# Abolition, Alliances, and Conflict

Anthony worked as an agent of the American Anti-Slavery Society and organized meetings and petitions before the Civil War. Abolitionist networks provided important experience and relationships for women’s-rights organizing.

After the war, disputes over the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments fractured alliances among reformers. Some rhetoric and strategic choices by Anthony and allies subordinated Black voting rights; a responsible account treats this conflict as part of her legacy rather than erasing it.
