# Reading Exoplanet Atmospheres

When a planet transits, some starlight filters through its atmosphere; when it passes behind the star, its contribution disappears. Seager modeled how spectra encode molecules, clouds, and temperature.

These methods made atmospheric characterization a central observing goal.
