# Ruth Benedict (@ruth-benedict)

Ruth Benedict was an American cultural anthropologist who combined comparative social science with a humanistic concern for how people make coherent lives within different cultural worlds. Patterns of Culture became her most influential book and helped shape the culture-and-personality tradition. She argued that unfamiliar behavior should be investigated in context rather than dismissed by an observer's standards.
