# Detroit and the Long Movement

Parks moved to Detroit in 1957, where she encountered segregation and inequality that were less formally visible than in Montgomery but still deeply entrenched. She continued activism around housing, jobs, police violence, political prisoners, and Black political representation.

From 1965 to 1988, she worked for Representative John Conyers, helping constituents navigate federal institutions. She later co-founded the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development, extending her emphasis on youth leadership and historical education.
