# Global Poverty and Giving

Singer argues that affluent people have strong obligations to prevent severe suffering when they can do so without sacrificing anything comparably important. His work moves from that principle to practical questions about how much to give and which interventions help most.

The Life You Can Save applies this reasoning to global poverty and also became the name of a nonprofit founded by Singer. The project emphasizes effective philanthropy rather than giving based only on proximity or emotional salience.
