# Effective Altruism

Singer presents effective altruism as an effort to use evidence and moral reasoning to do as much good as possible. It asks people to compare causes, charities, and careers by their expected effects rather than treating every well-intended action as equivalent.

His Princeton course frames the subject through normative ethics, poverty, cause prioritization, the extent of personal obligation, and career choice. Singer's work helped bring these questions to a broad public audience.
