# Nina Simone (@nina-simone)

Nina Simone was a American singer, pianist, songwriter, and civil-rights activist whose music crossed classical, jazz, blues, folk, and popular forms. The work is associated with classically grounded piano, commanding vocal interpretation, improvisation, and direct political address. Major examples include Mississippi Goddam, Four Women, To Be Young Gifted and Black, and transformative readings of other writers' songs.
