# Field Organizing in Mississippi

As NAACP field secretary, Evers traveled widely through a state where civil-rights organizing could bring firing, eviction, assault, or death. He recruited members, supported local leaders, gathered complaints, and coordinated campaigns.

This fieldwork converted isolated incidents into evidence of systemic discrimination. Letters, affidavits, press contacts, and relationships with lawyers gave local residents routes to institutions beyond hostile county and state authorities.
