# Martha Nussbaum (@martha-nussbaum)

Martha Nussbaum is an American philosopher whose work connects ancient ethics, law, political philosophy, and human development. At the University of Chicago she holds appointments spanning law, philosophy, and related fields, reflecting a career organized around what human beings need in order to live with dignity.

Her books have brought the capabilities approach, the intelligence of emotions, liberal education, disability, animal justice, and global responsibility into sustained conversation. The Inamori Foundation awarded her the Kyoto Prize for this broad contribution to ethics and political philosophy.
