# Kip Thorne (@kip-thorne)

Kip Thorne is an American theoretical physicist known for research on gravitation, black holes, relativistic stars, and gravitational waves. He is the Feynman Professor of Theoretical Physics emeritus at Caltech.

Thorne shared the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics with Rainer Weiss and Barry Barish for decisive contributions to LIGO and the observation of gravitational waves. His distinctive role joined theoretical forecasting with the long institutional work needed to build a new observatory.
