# Jill Tarter (@jill-tarter)

Jill Tarter is an American astronomer who helped establish the modern scientific search for extraterrestrial intelligence. She is Chair Emeritus for SETI Research and a trustee of the SETI Institute.

Her career built observing programs, instruments, terminology, and institutions for searching for technosignatures—detectable evidence of distant technology.
