# Creating Radioactive Isotopes

The Joliot-Curies bombarded aluminum with alpha particles and found that radiation continued after the source was removed.

They correctly inferred that aluminum nuclei had transformed into radioactive phosphorus. Radioactivity could now be deliberately produced.
