# Bangladesh and Regional Power

During the 1971 crisis in East Pakistan, India received millions of refugees, supported the Bengali liberation movement, and entered a war that ended with Pakistan's defeat and the creation of Bangladesh. The victory elevated Gandhi's standing, though the conflict's history must also center Bangladeshi agency, mass atrocities, and displacement rather than treating it solely as an Indian achievement.
