Anti-Lynching Investigation
After the 1892 lynching of three Black businessmen in Memphis, Wells investigated cases and compared public allegations with available facts. Her reporting showed that lynching functioned as racial terror and frequently protected political and economic power.
Pamphlets, newspaper articles, and international lectures transformed local evidence into a sustained campaign. Wells faced threats and the destruction of her press but continued publishing from outside Memphis.
