# Art Worlds

Art Worlds treats art as collective action. Artists depend on networks of performers, technicians, suppliers, distributors, critics, audiences, and institutions whose coordinated work makes production possible.

Conventions reduce the cost of cooperation by providing shared expectations, but they can also constrain innovation. Becker’s framework replaces the solitary-genius model with analysis of resources, divisions of labor, and negotiated standards.
