As first lady, Clinton led an unsuccessful effort for comprehensive health reform and continued work on children and families. Elected to the Senate from New York in 2000, she served on armed services and other committees, supported post-September 11 recovery, and voted to authorize the Iraq War—a decision she later said was a mistake.
