Ford's system joined standardized parts, specialized machinery, sequential tasks, high throughput, and eventually extensive vertical integration. The moving line brought work to each station, dramatically cutting assembly time and lowering unit costs. The achievement was organizational and collective, not a lone invention of either the automobile or assembly line.
