Posters, Lithography, and Celebrity

Between 1891 and 1900, Lautrec designed thirty-one posters marked by flat color, bold silhouettes, cropped forms, and economical lettering. They were legible at street scale and reproducible in large numbers.

These images advertised venues while helping manufacture modern celebrity. Commerce and artistic experiment occupied the same sheet.
