# Abolition and Women’s Equality

Martineau opposed slavery and wrote about the contradiction between democratic ideals and racial domination in the United States. Her archival record also documents sustained involvement with emancipation and other radical causes.

She criticized women’s political and economic exclusion and advocated expanded education and rights. These concerns were integral to her social analysis rather than separate from it.
