Beethoven Frieze and Total Artwork

Klimt created the Beethoven Frieze for the Secession’s 1902 exhibition, conceived around Max Klinger’s Beethoven sculpture and the ideal of integrated artistic experience. Its long painted sequence moves through suffering, hostile forces, art, and imagined fulfillment.
