Fridays for Future spread because young people adapted the strike to different political and social settings. UNESCO’s accounts of participants show students moving from inspiration to sustained local organizing, often confronting resistance from schools, officials, and adults.

Thunberg’s role is therefore best understood as catalytic rather than solitary. Her visibility opened attention, while millions of participants gave the movement geographic reach and endurance. Together they made intergenerational justice a central question in public debate over climate policy.
