Hopper's naval career extended from her wartime commission through later work on computer-language standardization. She retired in 1986 as a rear admiral, and the Navy subsequently named the guided-missile destroyer USS Hopper (DDG-70) for her. These institutional records connect her technical work with a long program of military computing service.
