# Labor Zionism and State-Building

Born in Kyiv and raised partly in Milwaukee, Meir migrated to British-ruled Palestine in 1921 and rose through the Histadrut labor movement and Jewish Agency. She participated in diplomacy around Israel's establishment, signed its declaration of independence, and served as ambassador, labor minister, and foreign minister.
