# Borderlands and Mestiza Consciousness

For Anzaldúa, a border is more than a territorial line. It is a social and psychic condition produced where races, nations, genders, sexualities, and languages are sorted and made unequal. Her idea of mestiza consciousness names a capacity to remain with contradiction and build a perspective that is not reducible to either side of a binary.
