Alpher and Herman predicted that relic radiation from the hot early universe should remain observable, an idea later confirmed through the cosmic microwave background.

Gamow also wrote widely read books using humor and imaginative characters to explain relativity, quantum theory, and cosmology. His public reputation should include the less-famous collaborators whose calculations supported the ideas he promoted.
