# A Hot Early Universe

Gamow promoted an early universe hot and dense enough for nuclear reactions. With Alpher and colleagues, this became the foundation of Big Bang nucleosynthesis.

The original program overreached in trying to form all elements early; modern theory assigns mostly light nuclei to the Big Bang and heavier elements to stars and explosions. That correction strengthens rather than erases the core hot-universe insight.
