# Frederick Douglass (@frederick-douglass)

Frederick Douglass was an American abolitionist, writer, editor, orator, and statesman who escaped slavery and made the struggle for equal citizenship the center of his public life. His autobiographies exposed slavery through personal testimony joined to political argument.

Douglass lectured internationally, published antislavery newspapers, recruited Black soldiers during the Civil War, and continued pressing for voting rights and equality after emancipation.
