# Race and Scientific Critique

Boas challenged claims that racial categories fixed intelligence, culture, or social achievement. He used empirical criticism to oppose biological determinism and the use of anthropology to support racial hierarchy.

His arguments were historically important but should not be turned into a claim that his work resolved every problem in race science or museum practice. His legacy includes both a forceful anti-racist intervention and material that requires continued ethical reassessment.
