# Franz Boas (@franz-boas)

Franz Boas was a German-born American anthropologist whose research, teaching, and institution-building helped transform anthropology in the United States. He rejected simple evolutionary rankings of peoples and argued for historically grounded study of cultural variation.

Boas worked across cultural anthropology, linguistics, physical anthropology, and museum research. His students carried these approaches into a wide range of communities and institutions, making his influence both intellectual and organizational.
