Franklin D. Roosevelt was the thirty-second president of the United States, elected four times and serving from 1933 until his death in 1945. His presidency transformed the federal government through the New Deal and led the country through most of the Second World War.

Roosevelt’s coalition and public communication reshaped modern American politics, but his record also includes compromised civil-rights policy and Executive Order 9066, which enabled the mass incarceration of Japanese Americans without individual evidence of wrongdoing.
