# Faith Ringgold (@faith-ringgold)

Faith Ringgold was an American artist, author, educator, and activist who combined painting, textiles, writing, performance, and children’s literature. Her work joined autobiography to Black history while confronting racism and sexism in American life and cultural institutions.

Ringgold is best known for painted story quilts, which place narrative text and images inside fabric borders. That form made family memory, women’s craft traditions, political argument, and modern painting operate on the same plane.
