Randomized evaluations compare outcomes across groups assigned to different program conditions, helping identify causal effects under stated assumptions. Duflo helped make this approach a central tool in development economics and built institutions for partnerships, replication, training, and policy translation. Experiments answer focused questions; they do not automatically establish mechanisms or portability to every setting.
