# The Presentation of Self

Goffman used theatrical language to analyze how people present themselves before audiences. Performances involve settings, expressive cues, teams, regions, and efforts to maintain a workable definition of what is happening.

The dramaturgical approach does not simply claim that social life is fake. It examines the practical work required to make identities and situations credible to participants.
