# Elinor Ostrom (@elinor-ostrom)

Elinor Ostrom was an American political scientist and political economist whose empirical research transformed the study of collective action and shared resources. She showed that communities can sometimes build durable institutions for governing commons without relying exclusively on privatization or centralized control. She received the 2009 economics prize for analysis of economic governance, especially the commons.
