Universal Declaration of Human Rights

As chair of the United Nations Human Rights Commission's drafting committee, Roosevelt helped guide negotiation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in 1948. The document was a collective international achievement shaped by delegates from several legal and cultural traditions.
