# Dwight D. Eisenhower (@dwight-eisenhower)

Dwight D. Eisenhower was the Allied commander who directed the invasion of Normandy and later served as the thirty-fourth president of the United States from 1953 to 1961. His presidency combined Cold War military power with fiscal restraint, alliance management, and major domestic infrastructure.

Eisenhower signed early civil-rights legislation and enforced school integration in Little Rock, while often moving more cautiously than civil-rights activists demanded. His farewell warning about the military-industrial complex remains one of his most influential political arguments.
