# Duke Ellington (@duke-ellington)

Duke Ellington was a American composer, pianist, and bandleader whose orchestra became a lifelong compositional instrument. The work is associated with individualized writing for musicians, orchestral color, extended form, swing, and sustained collaboration. Major examples include the Cotton Club years, Mood Indigo, Black Brown and Beige, Such Sweet Thunder, and sacred concerts. A balanced account also considers his vast output and the essential contributions of collaborators, particularly Billy Strayhorn and Ellington's band members.
