The Long Insulin Project

Hodgkin began photographing insulin crystals in the 1930s and continued until her team resolved the structure in 1969.

Her laboratory trained many crystallographers, making the work an institutional lineage rather than a lone breakthrough. Hodgkin also supported international scientific exchange and nuclear disarmament.
