# What Ultrafast Lasers Enable

Chirped pulse amplification supports laser machining, medical procedures, and experiments that probe matter over extremely short timescales. Concentrating energy into brief pulses creates intense interactions while limiting how long surrounding material is exposed.

Strickland’s later work has continued to develop ultrafast laser systems and nonlinear optical techniques. The Nobel-winning method is therefore one foundation within a broader field of precision light–matter research.
